Los Alcazares
Los Alcázares is a perfect getaway location. It sits on the sunny Costa Calida, just five minutes from Murcia’s San Javier International Airport, a short 2.5 hour flight to the UK.
It’s popular with holidaymakers looking to relax by the shores of the Med or float in the waters of nearby Mar Menor, the warm mineral-rich lagoon.
The chance to relax doesn’t stop there. You can visit the town’s thermal baths, have a massage and enjoy a long tapas lunch in one of the excellent bars and restaurants along the coast.
When you’re completely chilled out, why not think about learning a new skill. This area is a fantastic place to learn wind surfing, sailing and diving and there are seven golf courses around the town.
If you like to party, come to Los Alcazares at fiesta time, the last two weeks of August, and you’ll dance all night to some great live music while fireworks light up the sky.
The town has no less than four Blue Flag beaches; Palmeras, Manzanares, Los Nerejos and El Espejo. They are kept immaculately clean and have excellent facilities for families and children.
The shores of Mar Menor are also popular, the water in the lagoon reaches very warm temperatures of 30º in summer, ideal for a rejuvenating, gentle swim.
Mar Menor
Mar Menor, or the little sea, is Europe’s largest saltwater lagoon. Home to migratory birds, including dramatic pink flamingoes, it has been popular since Roman times.
For centuries people have come here to float in the warm temperatures of the lagoon and benefit from the well documented healing properties of the mud, known to be therapeutic for sufferers of rheumatism and arthritis as well as being fantastic for the skin.
